Program Purpose & Philosophy

The NDMHA Goalie Program supports the development of all current and emerging goaltenders through structured access to Saturday Goalie Clinics delivered by Magic Goaltending. Our aim is to create an environment where goalies feel encouraged, supported, and confident as they build the skills needed for success in the position.

Because goalie development requires focused coaching and individualized attention, clinic capacity is managed carefully to maintain strong coach‑to‑goalie ratios. Prioritizing registered and formally identified goalies ensures that players committed to the position receive meaningful instruction, while still allowing younger players the opportunity to explore goaltending in a positive, low‑pressure setting.

Eligibility Guidelines

U11–U21 Divisions

Players in U11 through U21 may attend Saturday Goalie Clinics if they meet one of the following criteria:

• Registered as a goaltender with NDMHA, or
• Formally identified by their coach as a back‑up goaltender for their team.

This ensures that both full‑time and designated back‑up goalies receive access to specialized training that supports their development and confidence in the role.

U7- U9 Players

U8 and U9 may attend Saturday Goalie Clinics regardless of their registered position. At these ages, players are still exploring different roles, and early exposure to goaltending helps build foundational skills and interest in the position. U7 players are ineligible to attend.

Operational Application & Program Review

These guidelines take effect at the start of each season and may be updated annually based on NDMHA operations.

• U11–U21 players who are not registered as goaltenders and not formally identified as back‑up goalies are not eligible to attend Saturday Goalie Clinics.
• Exceptions may be considered by the DOHO or Goalie Coordinator.
• This Goalie Program is reviewed annually by NDHMHA to ensure alignment with current programming, coaching resources, and the evolving needs of NDMHA’s goalie community.
