North Delta Minor Hockey Association is committed to keeping ALL participants of hockey SAFE.

This includes players, spectators, coaches, team and game officials.

While every team has at least 2 volunteers that are responsible for the safety of players on and off the ice, we need YOUR HELP. If you witness a situation that is unsafe either physically or emotionally, please SPEAK UP and report your concerns to your team officials or to the risk manager.

Dressing rooms mandate

The “TWO PERSON RULE" in the dressing room is to be always in place and never compromised for any reason what so ever. We can not emphasize how important it is for everyone to adhere to this very important policy as it is in place not only for the kids protection, but yours as team officials as well.
The use of cell phones, cameras or other recording devices are prohibited in all minor hockey dressing rooms. If you need to take a call, set your bluetooth connection to a speaker or adjust your playlist, do so outside the dressing room.

Player Medical Forms

A player medical form must be submitted to team officials for each youth participant at the beginning of each season prior to any participation in team events on or off the ice.

If any new medical concerns occur during the season, please ensure to provide an updated form to your team officials.

Player medical forms can be submitted using the following methods:

Attach an electronic copy of the player medical form to your player profile in TeamSnap. Click here for the instructions.
Email a copy of your completed player medical form to the risk manager (before season start) or a team official (during the season).
Bring a printed copy of your player medical form to your first practice/try-out session.

Concussion Awareness

BC Hockey requires that all team officials are qualified in the Concussion Awareness Training Tool (CATT) and familiar with the Hockey Canada return to play procedure before participation in any practice or game.

Head Contact / Maltreatment rules

Over the past decade, Hockey Canada and BC Hockey have introduced new rules in support of safer sports.

Rule 7.6 - Head Contact: ALL contact above the shoulders is to be called Head Contact. ANY contact to the head, face or neck whether accidental or intentional can result in a penalty. The Rule states, "There is no type of legal contact to the head, face, or neck. It is the players’ responsibility to avoid making contact with an opponent’s head, face, or neck, at all times." Referees are expected to assess a two minute minor penalty for a contact they deem accidental, or a double-minor (4 minutes) or major penalty (5 minutes or more) if they deem the hit intentional.
Rule 11 - Maltreatment: Hockey Canada and BC Hockey look to eliminate discrimination, disrespectful and abusive behaviour, and harassment from Canada’s game with a zero-tolerance policy. This rule applies to any interactions involving players, team officials or on-ice officials.
- Unsportsmanlike conduct: A player, goaltender or team official challenges/disputes the ruling of the official(s), or uses disrespectful language or gestures directed to the official(s) or any other individual.
- Abusive behaviour: A player, goaltender or team official uses abusive language or gestures directed to the official(s) or any other individual.
- Spitting: Any player, goaltender or team official who deliberately spits on or at an opponent, official, team official or any other individual shall be assessed a match penalty.
- Discrimination: A player, goaltender or team official who engages in taunts, insults or intimidation based on discrimatory grounds shall be assessed a gross misconduct and removed from the game. Incidents under this rule will also result in a minimum 5-game suspension.
  - Discriminatory grounds include: race, national or ethnic origin, skin colour or language spoken, religion, faith or belief, gender or gender expression, marital or familial status, genetic characteristics, disability.
- Physical harassment of officials: Any player, goaltender or team official who before, during or after a game threatens, strikes or makes any form of physical contact with a Referee, Linesperson or any off-ice official shall be assessed a match penalty.
If you see any discrimination or any form of maltreatment within the game, report it to an official.

Travelling for tournaments outside of the lower mainland
